By 1937 the panel was with D.A. Hoogendijk in Amsterdam, who lent it to the 1937–1938 exhibition of Dutch art in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. It later passed to J.A.G. Sandberg in Wassenaar and was handled by Wildenstein & Co. in New York, which sold it to the Samuel H. Kress Foundation on February 10, 1954. The Foundation gifted the work to the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., in 1961, where it is accession number 1961.141.3 in the Samuel H. Kress Collection.
