About this work

This print shows Willibald Pirckheimer’s face in profile, looking serious. He was a friend of Albrecht Dürer. The print copies a coin made after Pirckheimer died, not a live person. This wasn’t meant to be a portrait. It was a book illustration showing Pirckheimer next to Dürer’s name. The print was left unfinished, so you can see the artist’s changes. Look for prints at the Museum of Ethnography.
