Making Basins is a 1780 paint by Unknown, a Rococo painting work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows men making basins in a workshop. It's part of a set that depicts the porcelain industry in China. The interesting thing about this work is that it was created to show Europeans how porcelain was made, since they couldn't produce it themselves before the 18th century. You can learn more about the use of light and shadow in this painting by looking into the technique: chiaroscuro.
This rectangular watercolour from 1780 depicts three men shaping basins under a wooden structure, rendered in muted tones. It is one of a set of 24 paintings illustrating different stages of the Chinese porcelain industry, created to satisfy European curiosity about porcelain production methods. The work was acquired from Gordon M. Forsyth and entered the collection in 1910.
