Overview

In this opaque watercolour and gold on paper painting from around 1780, Raja Ajit Singh of Bundi is depicted seated beneath a canopy, smoking a huqqa while observing a young male kathak dancer perform. The ruler is adorned with an elaborate turban set with jewels, multiple strands of pearls with gemstone pendants, and ornate bracelets and bangles on both wrists. Musicians accompany the dance, contributing to the scene of royal entertainment.
