Nile Journey, Colossi of Memnon is a 1890 chalk by Elihu Vedder, a Impressionism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a flat, green field under a pale sky. In the distance, two tall, ruined stone figures stand side by side, half-buried in the ground. The mountains behind them are soft and blurred, with just a hint of color. The artist used light chalk on blue paper, making the scene look quiet and dreamy. The ruins might be famous, but here they’re just part of a peaceful landscape. If you like this style, check out Impressionism.
