About this work

This drawing shows three tall columns holding up a fancy building with a clock and a tower. In front, there’s a statue of a person on a pedestal, and a few small figures walk around the base. The ground looks like cobblestones, and the whole scene has a sketchy, almost ghostly feel to it. The artist focused on clean lines and shadows to make the buildings look solid. This style was common in the 1700s when people liked detailed cityscapes. Next, look up Baroque to see more art like this.
