Il se plaint de rentrer... is a 1866 ink by Honoré Daumier, a Impressionism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
In this lithograph, a man in a military uniform stands on the right side of the image, gesturing with his left hand while holding a scarf in his right. He appears to be speaking to another man, who is walking away from him, looking down and covering his face with his hands. The scene is set in front of a building with a sign that reads "COLLÈGE" on the left and "MARCRAVIAT" on the right. The image is rendered in a range of dark grays and blacks, with some lighter tones used to suggest the texture of the men's clothing and the building behind them. The overall effect is one of drama and tension, as if the two men are engaged in a heated conversation. This image is a lithograph by Daumier, Honoré, held at the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
Honoré-Victorin Daumier was a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker, whose many works offer commentary on the social and political life in France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the Second French Empire in 1870.
