This drawing shows a boy in a dark coat standing against a plain background. He’s holding a cloth bag, and a rooster peeks out from it. His face is serious, almost sad, with a hint of a smile. The artist signed it "Manet" in the corner, and the title at the bottom reads *Le Gamin* (French for "The Urchin"). This was a common subject for artists at the time—everyday kids doing everyday things. Next, check out The Cleveland Museum of Art to see this sketch in person.
