Watercolour, copy after The Visitation, Domenico Ghirlandaio in the Tornabuoni Chapel, Santa Maria Novella (Florence) is a 1860 watercolor by Domenico Ghirlandaio, a Impressionism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This watercolor shows a group of women standing in a courtyard. The women wear long robes in earthy colors like brown, blue, and green. Behind them, a tall wall, trees, and distant buildings form the background, with a mountain range in the far distance. The painting copies an older work, but this version uses softer colors and lighter brushstrokes. Notice how the light seems to glow on the women’s faces and clothes. Look up Ghirlandaio, Domenico to see the original painting this is based on.
A watercolour copy by Cesare Mariannecci depicts two women, the Virgin Mary and Saint Elizabeth, clasping hands at the center, surrounded by other women, with classical buildings and a distant landscape forming the background. The work was commissioned by the Arundel Society but remained unpublished. It was acquired in 1995 from the National Gallery in London.
