Vue du Château royal de Blois, prise du côté de la campagne is a 1727 by Jacques Rigaud, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This engraving shows a large, symmetrical building with a steep roof and many windows. It sits on a raised stone base, with a road and people walking below. Trees and smaller houses appear in the background, while a horse-drawn cart and a few figures move along the path in front. The title at the bottom calls it a "royal castle," but the scene looks calm and everyday. The artist used fine lines to show light and shadow, giving the building depth. Look up chiaroscuro to see how this technique works in other art.
Jacques Rigaud (1680–1754) was a French artist, born in Puyloubier.
