About this work

This painting shows a man and a woman standing outdoors. The man wears a white outfit with a turban, holding a small object in one hand and a knife in the other. The woman is dressed in a bright yellow sari with gold patterns, carrying a red basket on her arm. Behind them, palm trees and distant hills appear under a pale blue sky. Notice how the woman’s sari shimmers with light, while the man’s face is lit from one side, giving a slight shadow. This is a trick artists use to make figures look real.
