About this work

This painting shows a man and woman standing on either side of the canvas. The man, on the left, is bare-chested and wears a white cloth wrapped around his waist. He carries a large white bundle on his back and holds it with his right hand. The woman, on the right, also wears a white cloth wrapped around her body. She balances a large white bundle on her head with her right hand and holds another in her left. The two figures stand on a light brown floor, with a plain white background behind them. The artist has used a range of grays and whites to create a sense of depth and texture in the image. The style of the painting is reminiscent of Romanticism, a movement that emphasized emotion and individualism.
