This painting shows a man giving a speech on stage. He's standing at a podium, dressed in formal clothes. The man is William Charles Macready, an actor, and this is his farewell speech. Macready had a big career in theater, but he didn't start out that way. He was supposed to go to Oxford University, but his family's financial troubles changed his plans.
