Copy after The Crucifixion, Fra Angelico in the Museo di San Marco (Florence) is a 1864 watercolor by Fra Angelico, a Impressionism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting copies Fra Angelico’s fresco in Florence. It shows a wooden cross with a pale Jesus against a gold sky. Green hills curl behind him. Mary and John stand at the foot of the cross. It’s a watercolor copy from 1864, made by Christian Schultz. The Arundel Society liked it so much they turned it into prints. Back then, people were just starting to admire early Italian art. A watercolour copy by Christian Schultz of Fra Angelico’s fresco *The Crucifixion* depicts three figures on crosses above mourners gathered below. Published in 1872 as a chromolithograph by the Arundel Society, the work reproduces the original 1440s fresco from the Convento di San Marco in Florence, where Fra Angelico decorated the monks’ dormitory. The scene reflects the artist’s characteristic use of light and color, typical of his early Renaissance style. The Arundel Society’s reproduction contributed to the nineteenth-century revival of interest in Italian "primitive" masters.
