The Virgin Mary is shown seated with the Christ Child, who holds a pear in his hand. It entered a public collection in the 19th century and remains in institutional custody today.

Created during a time when Venetian artists were shifting from tempera to oil, the Alzano Madonna reflects broader trends toward naturalism and emotional subtlety. Bellini’s contemporaries, including Mantegna, influenced his compositional structure, yet his use of light and color set him apart.
