The hazards of shaking a plum tree too vigorously, when one too is mature. is a 1845 by Honoré Daumier, a Romanticism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This print shows a grumpy old man shaking a plum tree hard. Plums rain down while his hat flies off. His face is twisted in effort. Daumier made this for *Le Charivari*, a funny newspaper. He loved mocking silly rules. This series was called *Pastorals*—but it’s really just silly country scenes. It’s at The Cleveland Museum of Art if you want to see it.
This print (with title and captions added) was published in Le Charivari (May 29, 1845) as plate 2 from the series Pastorals.
