Nile Journey, Manfalout, Through Spyglass is a 1890 chalk by Elihu Vedder, a Impressionism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a small, two-story building with arched windows and a simple roof. Palm trees frame the sides, and the whole scene is drawn in soft, light colors. The paper has a yellowish tint, and the lines are loose and quick. The artist used colored chalk on paper, which gives it a sketchy, almost unfinished look. The building looks like it might be near water, but no people or boats are visible. If you like this style, check out Realism for more works that focus on everyday scenes.
