Trompe l'Oeil. A Cabinet of Curiosities with an Ivory Tankard
1670
From the collection of Statens Museum for Kunst
This painting is a trompe l'oeil, a trick of the eye. It shows an open cabinet door with a mirror behind it. The door is made of light-colored wood and has a grid of small panes. On the door, there are papers and a feather quill. The papers have writing on them, but it's hard to read. There's also a small statue of a person. The painting is very realistic, with lots of details that make it look like a real door. If you want to learn more about this style of painting, check out the Baroque movement.
