Bouquet envoyé ... A l'empereur de Russie ... is a 1854 ink by Honoré Daumier, a Impressionism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This lithograph shows a bearded rider on a horse carrying a giant bouquet. Three heads pop out of the flowers, grinning at us. A little dog trots behind, adding to the chaos. Daumier made this for a French humor magazine. People then loved political jokes, and he used the bouquet to mock how leaders got silly gifts. The drawing feels quick, like a cartoon you’d see today. Look up Daumier, Honoré
Honoré-Victorin Daumier was a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker, whose many works offer commentary on the social and political life in France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the Second French Empire in 1870.
