Rukmini is a 1730 paint by Unknown, a Baroque work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows a busy, colorful scene with lots of people. On the left, women in bright red and green dresses stand on steps, some holding fans or flowers. In the center, a man on horseback rides past a temple-like structure with a golden figure inside. Around him, musicians play instruments, and others kneel or stand nearby. The bright colors and crowded action fit the Baroque style, which often packed scenes with drama. Notice how the figures are outlined sharply and filled with flat colors—this was common in Indian paintings of this time. Look up Baroque next to see how this style spread beyond Europe.
The painting depicts an illustration from the Bhagavata Purana, rendered in opaque watercolour on paper around 1730, depicting the narrative of Rukmini's abduction.
