Self-Portrait is a 1645 by Anthony van Dyck, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This is a black-and-white engraved portrait of a man with curly hair and a mustache. He’s wearing a ruffled collar and looks straight ahead with a serious expression. Below his head, there’s a carved frame with two smaller faces on either side and a coat of arms in the middle. The text around the frame is in Latin, praising the man as a skilled painter. The lines and shading give the image a three-dimensional feel, even though it’s just ink on paper. If you like this style, check out the Baroque movement next.
Sir Anthony van Dyck (; Dutch: Antoon van Dijck ; 22 March 1599 – 9 December 1641) was a Flemish Baroque artist, who became the leading court painter in England after success in the Spanish Netherlands and Italy.
