About

Abstraction-Création was an international association founded in Paris in 1931 to promote non-figurative art amid the climate of Surrealist dominance. At its peak it numbered over 400 members including Piet Mondrian, Wassily Kandinsky, Jean Hélion, and Auguste Herbin, representing both geometric Constructivism and looser lyrical abstraction. Its annual publications documented the breadth of European abstract practice before the group dissolved in 1936 as members scattered ahead of the war.
