About

The Bentvueghels, or 'Birds of a Flock,' was an informal society of primarily Dutch and Flemish artists working in Rome during the 17th and early 18th centuries. Members adopted Dutch nicknames and participated in initiation rituals, forming a distinct community that supported one another while studying classical antiquity and the Italian landscape.
