Textiles & Lace

Cloth is a test every painter wants to pass. The fall of velvet, the sheen of satin, and above all the thread-by-thread illusion of lace let an artist prove their hand, and the Dutch and Flemish masters treated a starched collar or a turned-back cuff as a small masterpiece within the larger one.
